The purposes of this study were (a) to investigate the influence of psychosocial characteristics and recognition about government support on life satisfaction among old North Korean refugees, (b) to suggest the implications for increasing the levels of life satisfaction. North Korean defectors aged 50 and over were sampled using a stratified random sampling method. A total of 215 cases were analyzed by hierarchical regression. In the analysis to find factors affecting the level of life satisfaction among old North Korean defectors, the level of PTSD symptoms and social support network was determinant for the level of life satisfaction, and recognition about government support affected the level of life satisfaction. A number of implications for the high life satisfaction of North Korean defectors to South Korean society are presented.
